I mixed things up today. I saw someone put a big handle on their tech razor, so I broke out my Fat Handle Tech and matched it with my Utopia handle. Note: This was my second shave with the CVS SE blade. I did the first pass, and it was terrible. I switched it out with a GEM Stainless PTFE coated blade, and it made all the difference. Wow.

After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Rose Petal WH and then Pinaud Clubman after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed... Note: I only got two shaves out of the first CVS blade. It turns out they are not stainless. I noticed rusting on it and changed it for a new blade today. After today's shave, I cleaned the blade, dried it, and applied a little 3 in 1 oil. Let's see if I can get more than 2 shaves out of it.

New PIF on The Shave Den

I created a PIF page in The Shave Den to give away the following: a Van Der Hagen badger brush, a partially used tube of Cremo Cream, a 20s Old Type Decollette razor with 5 generic (ASR) blades, and a GEM Jr. with 4 ASR blades.

It is open to members with more than 10 posts and who have never won a pif. The PIF will run through August 31, and I will draw the winner from a hat.

There were 13 entrants. I listed them and printed them out. I cut them into strips, folded each three times, put them in my hat, jumbled them up, and chose one.

Update: September 5

Package was mailed Tuesday morning and delivered on Thursday afternoon. Sean said the razors were very clean and the cream had a nice scent. I think they are in a good home, now.

Won a G-Bar

I won this GEM G-Bar last night on eBay. It is a highly praised razor from the late 40s and 50s. This one looks like it is in great shape, and it is cased. Also, there are four Don Juan blades included.

I received the razor in the mail today. It was pretty clean, but I gave the razor and the box a good Dawn bath. The came out very nice. The blades were double edge blades. I think they will just go into a vintage razor blade collection.

New Handle for Gillette Decollette NEW LC

I got this Gillette Milady Decollette NEW in 2013. It is made in England and is a NEW long comb. The short handle was designed for use by women. The head is a great shaver, but the handle is not for a man.

 I decided to make a wooden handle that the brass handle would insert into. Below is what I came up with.

I noticed that the teeth on the NEW were in need of an cleaning, so I got out the electric toothbrush and did a thorough cleaning. I fitted the newly polyurethaned handle, and it is ready for tomorrow shave.

Teeth all clean and ready for a shave.

1920s Gilette Old Type Model 102

I had been reading some posts about long tooth open comb razors, and it led me to thinking about the 1920s Gillette old type razors. I went to eBay and did a search. I found this one and made a bid on it. I won.

It looks in pretty good shape and should clean up well. All the teeth are straight, and there is the traditional crack in the handle. It is hard to find a handle like this without the crack. I am looking forward to getting this razor because of the handle. I have a NEW with a short solid handle, and I want to get the long ball end handle to use on it, too.

After some cleaning and a little metal polish it is ready for service. There was plenty of green on this razor, especially between the teeth. I actually used an electric tooth brush, tooth picks, and floss to clean them. I am very happy with the way it cleaned up. Click on the pictures to enlarge.

NOS Gillette Platinum Plus Injector Blades

Sean, maltedmilk at TSD, piffed me these NOS Gillette Platinum Plus Injector Blades. They arrived in the mail today. He warned me, "I had a slight concern about how to send razor blades in an envelope. I could imagine a scanner rejecting them or a mail processing machine shredding the envelope. Wait til you see my redneck engineering for safely posting razor blades!" I think he did really well (real good). 

There are two, and they got here just in time. I have been shaving with my Schick Eversharp Hydro-Magic razor, and I was using my last blade. So, I very carefully loaded the blades into my Schick injector cartridge, and I am ready to go.
